History
Sullivan and Merritt, Inc. was founded in 1977 as a general contractor by Mr. Peter Sullivan and Mr. John Merritt. It changed hands in 1989 and began to focus largely on mechanical, piping and millwright work. At that time, it was largely a heavy industrial contractor serving the Maine paper mill industry. The Sullivan and Merritt Electrical Division was started in 1995. In 2006 Lance Leavitt and Jon Lee founded the current SMC corporation with increased service offerings including the expansion of piping fabrication capabilities.

July, 1995:
Sullivan and Merritt, Inc forms Electrical Division.

August, 2006:
Lance Leavitt and Jon Lee founded SMC.

July, 2008:
SMC completes largest project to date, $15 million sawmill expansion.

August, 2008:
SMC awarded first overseas contract, a large pipe fabrication project for a company in Abu Dhabi.
